I am always looking for good quality eighteenth century English violins, and this example by Thomas Cahusac, who worked at the sign of the Two Flutes and Violin opposite St Clement Dane’s Church in the Strand is typical of the kind of stock that I select in the price range around £6,000-£12,000. The violin is in exceptionally pure condition with and is a very characteristic example of the maker’s work, showing the influence of Banks and Forster with whom he was associated. Cahusac’s instruments were less refined than most, but very competently made for the lower end of the eighteenth-century market, as reflected by the price.
I am insured to offer instruments for a two-week trial period, and the violin is offered with my certificate of authenticity. I have various comparable instruments in stock, so please email (email@example.com) or telephone to discover what I have for sale at the time.
