Violin by Gonzalo Bayolo, 2024 Guarneri 'King Joseph'

Gonzalo Bayolo is one of our favourite makers. He is distinguishing himself as one of the finest makers of his generation. This latest example is yet another stunning Guarneri model, this one after the 1737 King Joseph. The body is slightly on the smaller side but it feels extremely comfortable to play. The sound is fiery and strong. The E string has outstanding brilliance and projection without sacrificing any sweetness or lyricism. The G string is rich and full and the two middle strings are very resonant and balanced allowing players to benefit from the full range of the instrument. There are no weak points; this instrument would be suited to any type of player but would shine in the hands of a soloist, orchestral leader or chamber musician.
