Ian Crawford McWilliams is a Canadian luthier based in the historical town of Brandenburg an der Havel, located 80 km west of Berlin. After completing his education in Vancouver, Ian embarked on a journey of craftsmanship and learning in England in 2002, honing his skills to become one of today’s most sought-after contemporary makers.
We are thrilled to present the first violin by Ian McWilliams in our collection. Crafted in 2024, this exceptional instrument draws inspiration from Guarneri models, offering a powerful, open, and resonant sound. Its tonal richness and projection make it an ideal choice for both concert soloists and knowledgeable players. This violin sold before we could even list it on the website, so look forward for more of Ian's remarkable work in the months and years to come at MyLuthier!
View InstrumentThe "Lord Wilton" Guarneri is one of the most popular models we have and for good reason. Talented makers like Ian McWilliams are able to get the best out of it, making it a superb choice for many musicians. This example is particularly beautiful and showcases Ian's antiquing mastery. The sound is very full and round with particular emphasis on the G and D strings, which are outstanding. The A and E have a lyrical quality that allows them to sing without losing projection. A very beautiful chamber or orchestral instrument!
