This rare viola by Paolo Vettori is one of the most remarkable instruments we have seen. The craftsmanship is truly unique and the front plate is made out of 200-year-old wood. The one-piece back is also a marvel! The sound is rich, powerful and most importantly, balanced, which can be one of the most difficult aspects of a viola to get right. From the bottom of the C to the top of the A string, the viola sounds uniform and clear throughout.

Viola by Paolo Vettori, 2005

A stunning viola by one of Italy's most respected makers, Paolo Vettori, this instrument showcases Paolo's exceptional craftsmanship. This viola is Paolo's personal interpretation of Stradivari, looked through the lens of the model developed by Ansaldo Poggi for his violas. Featuring a beautiful one-piece back of maple and a top made of antique spruce from the 17th century—sourced from antique beams in Northern Italy (accompanied by a dendrochronological certificate along with the certificate of authenticity)—this viola is a true masterpiece. Rich and powerful, with a particularly striking A string, this viola ensures that the player can project easily, making it ideal for solo performances. It was even lent to a young soloist for a number of years to further their career. However, the broad range of tonal colours this viola offers also makes it perfectly suited for blending in chamber music or orchestral settings.
